Do you support Silverlight?

NOTE: Accounts created after May 30th support Silverlight by default.

Microsoft Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of Microsoft .NET–based media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web.

In short this is Microsoft's answer to flash, we do fully support it as it is a client side and not a server side plugin. This means the end user must install a browser plugin to view a Silverlight site and nothing must be installed on the server.

Silverlight works with any Web server just like HTML does. Video and audio content can also be progressively downloaded and played back from any Web server platform. Benefits of Windows server-based distribution of Silverlight applications include Windows Media Services with Fast Stream (instant playback) and Fast reconnect technologies, lower distribution costs (streaming users only download what they watch), and tap into the full Windows server ecosystem of platform components and partner solutions. Those benefits will be enhanced in the future version of Windows Server 2008 and with IIS 7.0.

Extension: .xaml
MIME type: application/xaml+xml

To add a MIME type to a domain you can follow these steps.

Log into the Helm control panel with your user name and password.

Click on the domain name you need to add the MIME type to.

Click on the MIME Types icon and the list of existing MIME types will be displayed.

Enter "xaml" in the Extension dialog box and "application/xaml+xml" in the MIME type box.

Now click the "Save" button to complete adding the MIME type.

ANSWER:

No. Provided that the domain is registered in your name (as it should be), you can simply update your namservers (from where you manage your domain names) to that of your new host.

What Is A Domain Name?

ANSWER:

A domain name is a word along with a TLD that uniquely identifies your website.

A domain is your identity online. It separates you from everyone else - once yours, as long as you keep renewing it, no one else may have it.

There are two parts to a domain - the domain name itself, and the TLD (top level domain) extension.

The most popular TLD is the .com extension - it is synonymous with online business. But due to its popularity, getting a good domain name with '.com' is hard - most have been bought and are not available.

Most TLDs have a meaning behind them - .EDUs are used by educational institutes, and .ORGs are supposed to be used by non-profit organizations. A domain with a TLD of 'co.uk' is very likely British-based. There are other TLDs too, such as .cc, .tv, and .tk. These are all associated with either a company or with a country.

Registering a domain name is simplistic. You do need to be careful though, when registering it in your name. Make sure that it's not already taken (it must be available first, check it out on our domain name checker).

Why is my web site showing pages hosted in my former site provider?

The information in this article applies to:

Web site

ANSWER:
Your web site's domain name is not fully propagated to our servers. It may take up to seven days to properly see your new site. This is because your ISP maybe caching old internet files and you must wait till such files are flushed out.

Another reason is because your computer is caching old Internet Files. Try deleting the cached files or press 'ctrl' and 'F5', this will force your browser to collect the new versions of the files.

ASP.NET Support

All of our servers fully support the following versions of ASP.NET

Asp.Net v1.1

Asp.Net v2.0

Asp.Net v3.0

Asp.Net v3.5 SP1

Asp.Net AJAX Extensions

Please note the following, ASP.NET 3.5 and ASP.NET AJAX are actually extensions for ASP.NET 2.0. By selecting ASP.NET 2.0 from within the control panel you will automatically enable ASP.NET 3.0, 3.5, and AJAX. To use the extensions you need to make the proper configuration changes in your web.config file.
